Sunstone is... Sunstone... not really sure what's going on with Sunstone. maybe it really is just a 2 gem requirement? I don't think I'd describe Sunstone as being one with flesh or blood. Could depend on the type of gems fused though, ruby is a fire gem so idk if an opal + steven fusion would be similar. Amethyst is probably a fire gem tho so I think maybe a Sapphire + Pearl + Steven fusion might have blood? Or slush for blood lol

An incomplete list of all the people that Jason Todd/Red Hood killed who (probably) didn't deserve it (in Under the Hood)

DISCLAIMER: I am a Jason Todd fan. I literally only got into Batman comics because of him. My presence in this fandom is entirely, 100%, entirely, conclusively his fault and he could kill 82 people in Blackgate by poisoning the mess and it wouldn't be enough to make me hate him.

There is not really a wider point I am trying to make here, though I have a lot of nebulous thoughts that I'll maybe turn into something coherent someday. I just noticed that Jason kills, like, a lot of people in Under the Hood! As in. So many on-panel and then Winick implies that he kills even more off-panel. So I made a list about it.

Whether someone "deserves" to die or not is really not something I feel like arguing, so just know that this is just me compiling a list of low level henchmen, drug dealers, drivers, etc. People who are not in Charge.

The List

(Issue #2) These guys were hired to move Black Mask's shipment. The shipment contained a wide variety things, including various rogue weapons, Amazo, and 100 pounds of kryptonite. All these guys were unconscious by Batman and Nightwing, and many were in the boat when Red Hood blew it up. Based on previous panels there should also be some knocked out on the dock, though they aren't visible in the second panel.

(Issue #4) Red Hood shoots the four guys who accompany Mr. Freeze with machine gun turrets disguised as nondescript warehouse crates, which is fun! I'm pretty sure he was also trying to kill Freeze here - stuck a little bomb on him - but Freeze's armor was ludicrously strong here.

It looks like he's shooting them with toothpicks but I'm like 90% sure this was meant to be lethal.

(Issue #5) These two delivery drivers. They also mention the other five deliveries "hit" which. Probably means they also got blown up to death.

"I'm telling you I sent two of your better men to take a simple look at a crime scene and now they're missing."

(Issue #5) Potential murder of Jacob and Ryan. Inconclusive.

(Issue #5) General discussion of the sheer unspecified number of people Jason's killing. The people decapitated here were "five runners who worked [...] over by the high school." Jason explains to Onyx that these runners were selling drugs to twelve-year-olds.

(Issue #6) This entire warehouse full of people. He does name three of the people in the room (Marlin Stone - runs "what's left of the east side traffic", Jay Karino - "street muscle" "soldier", Teddy Reese - "pimp", "kiddie porn ring", "narcotics") and calls them all "piece[s] of garbage" and "dirtbags."

Everyone else seems to have been the backup guarding the meet. He killed them all to prove a point to Onyx, at least in part.

"...now he seems to just be dispatching them."

"Oh, so now we've got another Batman? One who doesn't mind the blood?"

"No, sir. The Red Hood is still taking huge cuts from all avenues of business. Drugs, racketeering, prostitution… now…. it looks like he's eliminating the competition."

(Issue #9) Panels speak for themselves. We don't get a clear body count but it is high!

(Issue #9) The blast mentioned here is referencing the rocket launcher Red Hood sent into Black Mask's office window.

Misc other more arguably-deserving kills and tangential thoughts

The infamous duffel bag, containing the head of eight lieutenants.

Li, Black Mask's right hand man, thrown through the window of Black Mask's hideout with a cell phone stuffed in his mouth.

Captain Nazi. (good for him!)

Jason didn't directly kill these guys but he did convince Black Mask to kill all his "second in commands" and "'go to' guys" (6 people total) which was fun.

He blows a lot of things up. Could be a whole separate list.

What was the point of all this? He was doing a lot of killing. A truly astounding amount of killing. So many people died.

I'm tired and I don't trust myself to successfully make a coherent point, but here's a fun little quote that's been bouncing around in my head while I worked on this. In Issue #7, Jason tells Bruce that "Death will come to those who deserve death. And death may come to those who stand in my way of doing what's right."

Post Row 1 - Tov’s Log

Post Row 1 - Himei’s POV from Tov’s perspective.————————————————————

Nyx hadn’t been sleeping.

Tov could tell from the bags under his eyes. They were almost as bad as hers.

She’d kept a close eye on him since Round 16. Did what she could to look after him with the guards breathing down their necks.

That included sitting with him during meals to make sure he ate.

If Nyx found it bothersome, he didn’t say anything.

The cafeteria was mostly quiet under the constant watch of armed human guards.

They fucked up big time by letting Aegaeon and Saachi get away at the end of Round 15.

From the whispers she’d overheard, the AREPH was furious.

And again, the rest of the contestants were left to suffer the consequences.

Tov finished eating first, her attention switching between Nyx sitting across from her and everyone else in the room.

Lang was seated next to Nyx on his left, pushing what was left of her food around the tray.

None of them spoke.

What could they even say?

Tov was an only child. She had no frame of reference for what it was like to lose a sibling.

How could she comfort Nyx through that kind of loss in a way that felt sincere?

The best she could do was imagine losing Nyx, but the mere thought made her sick to her stomach.

Something over Tov’s shoulder caught Lang’s attention.

Before she could turn to see for herself, a familiar voice cut through the silence, sharp enough to draw blood.

"What the fuck is this?"

Tov’s breath caught in her throat.

Himei?

She whipped around so fast her neck hurt.

Himei was a few tables down, standing over Daiki with clenched fists and a bright red collar.

Tov couldn’t remember the last time she saw Himei so angry.

Daiki was looking back up at her, mildly amused despite the magazine sitting in her food tray.

Now things started to make sense.

Cassio had called Tov before breakfast, asking if she’d read any magazines lately.

They sighed in relief when she answered no, and firmly ordered: “Keep it that way.”

No further elaboration.

Whatever had riled up Himei was no doubt in that magazine.

And if Cassio was worried about how Tov would react to reading it too, that only meant one thing.

That bitch talked about Tallis.

“What—the fuck—is this?” Himei asked again, harsher than before.

No one in the cafeteria said another word. All eyes were on Himei and Daiki.

Tov couldn’t hear Daiki’s response from so far away. Himei’s reaction was enough to fill in the blanks.

“Don't you fucking dare play coy about this, you fucker!” Himei slammed her hands against the table with a loud bang.

The guard at the door near to Tov, Nyx, and Lang stepped toward the brewing altercation.

Tov was on her feet and moving before Nyx could even attempt to physically stop her.

“Tov, don’t.” He warned.

She almost couldn’t hear him. The blood rushing around in her ears burned and roared.

"You just had to fucking gloat, didn't you?” Himei shouted as Tov got closer. “Gloat all about how fucking great you are because you didn't get shot. Like you deserve to live, like he doesn't!"

"Himei,” Daiki said, voice flat, “I deserve to live because I won. He didn't. It's not my fault l'm more appealing to fans.”

Some raging, feral thing trapped in Tov’s chest wanted to bare its teeth and rip Daiki’s throat out.

“You're more appealing to fans because you're a fraud.”

Daiki turned to look at her, huffing out a laugh devoid of any humor.

“Oh, you're part of this now? That's ironic coming from you. You're the star of the whole show, aren't you?” She smirked. “I'm sure you could easily get your own interview to repair any damage you think I did on poor Tallis's reputation, right?”

“Trust me, I will.” Is what Tov wanted to say, but then Himei growled and the words died in her throat.

Himei stepped around the table and Daiki rose to meet her. The height difference was stark, but Himei didn’t falter, glaring daggers up as Daiki stared her down.

“Don't you ever patronize Tallis. Don't you ever disrespect him like that. And don't you ever talk to Tov that way. She's more talented and worthy than you could ever dream to be.” Tov’s heart did a little flip in her chest. “Your kind is going out of style. Azure is dead. Ellie is dead. Min is dead and is still a million times the person you will ever be. You will fucking lose and I won't be one bit sad when you do.”

Himei snarled, yanking Daiki down to her height by the collar of her shirt. “You deserve everything you have coming.”

“Hey.” A hand brushed Tov’s arm, Nyx’s hesitant voice in her ear. “Himei, Tov, don't. She's not worth it. Don't do this to yourselves.”

Daiki laughed around a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, “Do you really need someone to babysit you so badly? First Tallis, now him? Are you going to blame me when he dies, too?” She nodded at Tov. “When she dies?"

Tov watched in real time as the last thread of Himei’s sanity snapped.

She surged forward, shrieking, and slammed Daiki into the table.

Himei punched her once. Twice.

The second one landed true and drew blood, painting Daiki’s cheek crimson.

Tov lunged to get her own hits in, but something — someone — pulled her back, lifting her feet off the ground.

“Don’t do this, Tov!” Nyx grunted from behind her, arms tightening around her waist, “You’re supposed to be the star of the season. Don’t throw it at all away over her!”

Tov barely restrained her instinct to bite at the unwanted physical contact.

Fuck being the Star of Season 39!

Fuck ALIEN STAGE!!

She was going to get her revenge one way or another.

Two guards rushed in and grabbed Himei by the arms, pulling her off of Daiki. The smaller of the two unholstered their taser.

Tov’s stomach dropped.

She stopped struggling in Nyx’s hold.

No. Not again.

The taser crackled to life, blue sparks jumping between the two metal prongs on its end.

Himei tried to get away, but to no avail. The guard pressed the taser against her side and pulled the trigger.

The sound of Himei’s wail of pain lanced through Tov’s heart like a dagger.

They fired a second shock to stop her from fighting back, and Himei’s body went limp.

All of the fight rushed out of Tov as she helplessly watched the guards drag Himei away.

Back to isolation.

Nyx finally put Tov down, but kept his hands planted firmly on her shoulders; their chests heaving from exertion and adrenaline.

Another guard came to check on Daiki, helping her to her feet and leading her away from the tables, presumably headed for the clinic.

Tov wasn’t quite done yet.

“Daiki.” She called out, voice as cold as ice.

Daiki raised her head to meet her gaze.

Tov stared into the abyss where her eyes should be. She didn’t flinch when the abyss stared back.

“If by some miracle you end up on the same stage as me, I won’t let you leave alive.” She said.

It wasn’t a threat.

It was a promise.

Daiki’s lips twisted into a mockery of a grin, “Can’t wait.”

To say that Tov hadn’t expected Himei to kiss her would be an understatement.

And yet.

And yet…

They couldn’t have kissed at any other time, could they?

No.

Not in this lifetime, at least.

It was different from her kiss with Tallis.

This one was desperate, filled with bitter regret. As heavy as the collar around Himei’s neck. There was an emptiness to it too.

How ironic that the kiss was the closest they’d ever been, and yet Himei had never felt further away.

Maybe she did it out of grief.

Maybe she wished Tov was Tallis instead.

Maybe she wished she hadn’t kissed her at all.

Tov didn’t ask any questions.

Himei wouldn’t look at her.

She was shaking, face buried in her hands. Tov wasn’t sure what to say.

So she hugged her instead.

She wrapped her arms around Himei’s tense shoulders and rested her chin on top of her bowed head.

It was an awkward position to be in. Tov didn’t care. She had no intentions of letting go.

She closed her eyes and rubbed soothing circles on Himei’s back, trying to get her to relax, similar to how Himei comforted her when they were younger.

Tov had the fleeting thought of telling Himei that she loved her, but ultimately decided against it.

Everything would just get more muddled.

More complicated.

She just held her until the guards came, wondering what it all meant.

As Tov laid in bed that night, waiting for troubled sleep to take hold, a dark truth crystallized in her mind.

When Tallis died, he didn’t die alone.

Himei died too.

1. BLOOD - Does everyone bleed the same colour? If not, why not?

The world is run by 3 Major Races! Two are organic, one is mechanic.

In order of hierarchy: Crystalline, Human, and Robot.

2. PEPPER - What is the deadliest poison?

I was wondering what to put for this one before realising there is essentially a 'poison' a strong enough crystalline may give someone manually.

Medusa Rot, or Crystalline Petrification.

It's given by an aggravated spike- this can be purposeful to attack someone or even accidental if the attacker is panicked/agitated enough, and can't control their powers.

Considering how nobles and strong crystallines gave dwindled over the years, and such harsh powers haven't been needed- it's incredibly under-researcved, like an extinct dissease.

So it's not likely the victim or the attacker know.

A timeline of it's affects: Body horror/Medical horror warning?

It affects organic species. However if given to a robot, it's likely it will just fight it's way through it and clog up their systems with crystal growth, giving a relatively similar affect that's got a slightly higher survival chance.

3. CANDY - How do they treat children?

This very much depends on the household!

Though in most houses, Children are raised religious relative to area. Most commonly, Lunnox (In-universe religion of worship of the moon, enforced by the Cobalt Empire which rules the majority of the world and is the largest power.)

If a child is born to a Human and Crystalline, it's likely to be abandoned or orphaned, due to how taboo half-breeds are. The child will appear entirely human, other than perhaps some odd colouring. (Coloured hair, eyes, birthmarks.)

If a halfbred child is kept, the crystalline is almost definite to lose any higher status, and the human is likely to he rejected by peers also. Most halfbreds will just say they're human for slightly better treatment.

Robot children are rare-

Robots are essentially dead souls made posses a robot host body, most likely with their memories gone to function as some sort of labour or built for a purpose.

So if a child is a robot, it's more likely they come from a wealthy family, and after dying or getting sick too soon, was rebuilt as a robot- and kept their memories. This can be controversial. Some consider it mutilation or depriving a child of their original race, some consider it fair to let a child live on.

Noble crystalline children?

Uhhhhhh. yeah.

4. BLUSH - What is their view on sex?

Sex, due to the empire being very conservative religious in it's ways, is a taboo thing to discuss.

It's not entirely medieval though, in an 'everyone be celibate' way. Its moreso taboo to discuss in places such as work or in front of elders and superiors- most adults and teens in the modern day will brag about it, or crack sex jokes and stuff like that, similar to your average modern day society. It's still a rather gossipy subject though.
